Ok I went and looked at a 2002 2500 today and need some advice. First off, the truck had oil on the front end and the guy explained that there was some kind of factory drain cup that oil would drain into and was supposed to be drained every third oil change, but the previous owner removed the cup and it just leaked on the front end. I have never heard of this before, and I am wondering if he is full of it, or is this correct? It didn't seem to leak anywhere on the motor or anything. Also, he said it had a southbend, single disk clutch in it and it was a PIA to push the clutch in. Thoughts?

2002 Dode Cummins Sport SHARP!!!

he is correct on the blowby catch bottle up front but it shouldnt be dripping wet unless the truck was run real hard. Looks to be a decent deal if its in fact as clean as he says.

South Bend single disc clutches are typically easier to push in than a stock clutch, dual disc clutches are harder to push in than single disc clutches. Did it make any noise while you held the clutch in?

It wasn't all over the front end, mostly just on the front diff, the pitman arrm and a few other parts. You could tell that the bottle hasn't been on there for a long time though. No, I didn't hear anything when I pushed the clutch in but I wasn't really listening for anything either. It shifted fine but u had to mash the clutch to the floor to get it to go in gear

Anybodys thoughts on the purchase? I really like the truck but you can tell the HS kid who owns it ran it pretty hard. The rear tires are a lot more worn than the fronts but he is not a typical HS kid. He does know more than most his age regarding the truck and the motor. Its hard to find a 2001/2002 6 speed.

If you buy it, I would suggest taking your radiator out and power washing it. The oil out of the hose you are asking about will get in the fins, mix with dirt and really plug it up. Sounds like a good deal, might investigate the clutch issue a little farther. Just my 2cents

I might ask a little more about the clutch if I were you. I found that South Bend makes a 750 HP clutch but its a dual disk (which explains why it's harder than stock to push in). If it were me, daily driving a dual disk in the city might get old if that's something you do.

The oil on the front is normal (it's a blow-by catch pretty much) no worries.

I made the kid an offer but he refused. He would not come down on the price at all. It wouldnt be a DD so I wasnt too worried about the clutch. We will c if he calls me back.
