"Buzzing" from turbo

Lately I have a noise coming from what I believe is the turbo. It just started randomly doing it.

When it first started it sounded like a buzzing or rattling sound, maybe like something was loose. I checked the hose clamps holding the air intake tube to the turbo and tightened them up but that didn't cure it. I checked the exhaust manifold and the turbo and didn't find anything loose or obviously wrong. I also took the air intake tube off and checked where the silencer ring was to see if maybe the impeller blades were hitting but I didn't see any signs of that.

It seems to be getting worse too as yesterday when I got on it to get going out of a parking lot it really screeched pretty good. Prior to yesterday it only did it when accelerating from zero to say 40 mph. If I was on the highway doing 65 mph and accelerated for example it doesn't do it. I also took the air box off and started the truck with the turbo open. I then used my hand to control the throttle slowly ramping up the RPM's to try and see or hear where the sound was coming from but of course it didn't do it so apparently it's only doing it under load which doesn't make sense either.

I should try and get a video while driving but I'm not sure the camera will pick up the noise over everything else. My concern is that it's the turbo and one of these days it's just gonna let go and either cause more damage or leave me stranded or both.

You could be having trouble with the wastegate. I would check that considering you only hear it under load.

Hmm....I never thought of that. What do I check it for? Should I just replace it?

I had a turbo flange gasket not sealed right and was causing a screatching sound at higher boost levels. This was on a CR though. The drive pressures was causing the gasket to rattle and screatch. Sounded like some one taking a blade of grass between thier thumb and index figure and blowing through it. (If you have never heard of it, ask your grand parents about it or look it up on you tube lol)

I'm gonna remove the waste gate tonight and check it. How do I get it off? Should I bother even trying to clean it or just order a new one? Can I run the truck without one temporarily until the new one gets here?

I would remove the turbo and examine the whole thing, this way you can have a look at the exhaust side of things. Replacing the gasket wouldn't be a bad idea too.

Well I checked all that stuff and didn't find anything wrong. I tried to take a video while driving to show you the noise but of course then it didn't do it. I tried several times from a stop to get right on it to get it to make the noise but it just wouldn't. That makes me believe it isn't the turbo at all and must be something else.
