What the heck am I getting myself into here? The head is off and the timing cover removed. Thats when I stopped. Can this be done without the cummins tappet tool? Im thinking I need to get a cummins service manual or mechanic before I go further. Any help here would be great. Its the truck in my sig.

You taking the lifters out? You need .5" dowels, push them hard into the lifters. We used conduit clamps, clamped them around the dowel and it held the dowel/lifter up. Then you can cut a piece of PVC in half and drop them in one at a time. Use a rubber stopper and a string to fish them back in. Are you gonna go with a billet cam? I would, pricey investment to do, but if your gonna do it then do it right!

Will I need cut pistons to run a billet cam? I have a feeling im gonna turn this into alot more than it started out to be. I was told if I replace the cam to do the lifters also.

You will need to machine the block to run a billet cam. The only reason I say this is cause if your gonna ppump it, and go with a big pump(13mm) and run big rpm you should probalby do it. I didn't and haven't had any issues, but I don't turn 5000+ and don't run big fuel thru my 13mm. This winter I am going with a billet cam though.

I havent made my definate decision on a ppump or monster pump yet. Hey I called enterprise by the way.

HOLY CRAP!! I just looked up the price for a billet cam on haisleys website. U aint a kidden when u said pricey Dan.

I would run a helix 2 cam from a F1 diesel they are cheaper than haisleys cam and it has a mech fuel pump lobe on it if you wanted to run a mech fuel pump. That is the cam I am planing on running. Just my $.02

If youre still going to run your VP44 then a cast cam should be fine. A billet cam would be nice but its a lot of money. There are some high HP trucks out there running cast cams.

Take 1/2" dowel and make it look like this, will hold the tappets well. I used zip ties to tie two dowels together, although elastics or clamps would also work.
