Ok I was gonna get a Hamilton 181/210 but bought this cam because of the deal I got on it. It is a maxspool 2.5+ 102 I have talked to Greg and he told me it is a drop in and I dont need to Fly cut the pistons. The specs are, intake is 170@.050 with .270 lift, exhaust is 215@.050 with .305 lift. I was looking for something smaller but like I said I got a good deal on it. Greg told me it is very tight and needs to be degreed b/c it can only go in one way. I was gonna sell it but havent had much intrest in it so I might as well just put it in since I'm finishing up the P-pump swap this weekend. My question is will it be hard to install? I've never degreed a cam before and dont have the tools yet but a kit is cheap enough Do I just put the stock gear on it and install it between the marks on the gears like a normal cam or is that what the 102 means?. I'd really like to run it I'm just worried about the install. Please give me any help or advice you can.

Install it to the factory marks. You need to find true TDC. Do not go by the timing pin. If you do a search you can find several wright ups on how to read the degree wheel.

Yeah Comp cams has a nice write up with pics on their site that comes with their kit. It seems like TDC would be easy enough to find. So the cam in theory should be good to go just putting it in but what if it's not how do I know what Key I need and where can a guy find one quick?

I think you'll like it. I'll look at my cam card tomorrow, sounds close if not the same.

Yeah Jeff has helped me out ALOT on this P-pump swap but I'll need the keys by this weekend and wont have the degree wheel until this friday if I can even get one.

So this cam is a Maxspool 2.5+102 and greg said it has to go in at 102. What exactly does that mean?

You may not need to change it. Mine came in at 101 and I left it there. It's a little close on the exhaust side and may move the power band just a little higher. So far it works great.

Ok so chances are good that when installed it will be good but you just degree it to double check?

Bolt on gear?

Only asking because I was talking to someone the other day that is doing a p pump swap with an auto and he is getting his cam drilled. Said that they kind of like to walk off if it's just pressed on.

Thanks a bunch man that makes me feel alot better about it.

It was supposed to be but it's not. I'm only running a little 160 pump though and 4k rpm's will be an extreme rarity with this thing..

Cool. I mostly wanted to throw it out there. I figure I ought to be a little useful from time to time:D

Thanks for lookin out some folks wouldnt go out of their way to say it. I'm just gonna keep it a mild street/strip truck.

It is bolt on. If you get the bolt & cap kit it will most likely have the wrong bolt. I have the right one if you need it. I had to buy ten from McMaster-Carr.

the 102 greg says the cam must be installed in is the intake centerline. like you said there is enough info on comps web site (if you buy there kit there is instructions and a vid) it is not that hard. the comp kit is around 100.00 and jegs or summit can next day air since you have to have it now. either way i dont know if your head is off but if it is you can just install the can and put clay on the piston to check clearence with the valves but either way take your time and turn the engine over by hand a few times before you start it.
bad things happen if the valves touch the pistons.
