Ok guys I need some opinions on what you guys think.

So today while driving my truck the cel has came on 4 times and everytime it has been for the cam sensor code. I have cleared the code everytime and it will stay gone for awhile and then pop back up.
The truck runs fine and doesn't seem like anything is wrong.

I need to know if you guys think its just electrical or something else and asap because I'm leaving to drag race my truck at the Fass Nationals in Indy at 5am tomorrow
I'm really hopin its just electrical but please let me know what you guys think

Thanks Zach

If it was me I would pull the cam sensor plug and check for a loose or dirty connection

If you want to determine if its the sensor switch it with the crank sensor.

I've had to retainers fail...got a 341 code both times that wouldn't clear for long.

Yeah that's the code I'm getting. I washed my truck really well yesterday with a pressure washer and did the underside so I'm hopin that with sittin over night it had a chance to dry out and its electrical. With my luck though probably not:confused:
If not its really gonna suck cause I have only about a month on my new engine and the cam has already had to be pulled once because the origanal builder didn't press the gear on all the way.

Im having this same issue. We have gone through everything. How would I know after its pulled apart if its the cam gear retainer? When the cam was installed my buddy heated the gear up way too much to get it off the old cam. Could this be causing my problems? We have pulled it apart and the cam gear would not budge.

Didn't need to heat it at all. It will press off. If you didn't use a press, then this may be the cause of your issues.

Always support the gear next to the center and press it off. To install, warm the gear in a oven to 400*F for 30 minutes and it'll drop on like butter on hot biscuits.

Unfortunately i was working when my buddy did the cam gear. He heated it up till it was red to get it off. He actually blued my old cam. I explained to him it needs to be pressed off. Then put in the oven at three hundred with the cam in the freezer an it will drop right on. He didn't listen. There is a reason there are protocols for this stuff! I've spent alot of money trying to figure out this issue. It's beginning to sound like I may have to tear it down again and put a new cam gear on.

That's why I had to change mine the first time...second time the gear was changed in the block and tge gear wasn't fully seated.

This time I did all tge work and made sure tge gear was FULLY seated on the cam.

I think that my gear is seated. Only becuase the code is intermittent. I have a feeling the gear was weakened or warped because under high rpm it throws it. Unless somehow its walking. I think at high load it distorts or gets pulled one way or another. I guess the only way to find out is put a new one in.
