Ever since I bought this 2007 5.9 ctd, the cam shaft sensor trips the CEL light for about a week. If I clear it, it will stay off still I let the truck idle for a few minutes. After two weeks, its sporadic. After three weeks , no more CEL.

I even tried a new Cummins brand cam sensor. No luck for fixing it. I also pulled it out durning the first week to see if there is something on it. Clean as can be.
I have looked at the pair of wires by the ac compressor for chaffing. Nothing there that was alarming.

Anyone ever hear about this craziness?

Thanks for any input on what to check.

Have you ever plugged a scanner into it and seen what that tells you?
A "hard" light usually sets DTC codes.

Mark.

The next thing to check for is the cam gear not fully seated on the cam. Need to pull it out to do that. Did you buy the truck new or used?

It only last maybe 300 miles. Then it stays off until the next oil change
