What cam for a 24v VP motor?
I've got a Enterprise hot rod pump, 200 hp dinomite injectors, .093 conector tubes, drag comp, smarty, 35/ht60 twin, o-ring 12mm studs, built suncoast, don't want to go with a billet cam just something that i can put in and not have to worry about machining the block or pistons, don't want to put in springs but will if it were a must.

F-1 Helix 2 would be a good choice

forgot bout the fass 150 with the draw straw and could you explain a little firemed?

I just got a f1 helix 2, and put it in. The truck is not up and running but the only reason i went with that cam is because it is one of the few that come from a blank they are not regrinds. Apparently the new fletcherbuilt cams are suppose to be really good but i dont know of anyone actually running one in there truck right now. I know a guy that has one but his truck is not complete yet. Uts worth a shot look around the form for that fletcherbuilt cam. its pretty recent i believe.

If you buy a helix 2 with the lobe for the lift pump you can be done with the stupid electric pumps. The pump was only a couple hundred bucks and should last for the life of my truck =P I had to regulate it down because I was getting 50 psi FP cruising down the road.

So the lobe that you are talking about is for if i wanted to eventually p-pump the truck, and for a couple hundred more its worth it to have just in case i wanted to. How the scheid and haisley cams compare to the helix 2?
Does the helix 2 have have and irratice idol, or does it idol smooth?

If you order the F2 you can order it with the lobe. On our 2nd gens there is a cover right below the electric lp, thats where you put the mech lp. You might have to oblong the ecm holes and slide it forward but it fits just fine.

The only extra cost is the mech 12v pump. There is no extra cost to have the lobe put on. If you buy the cam i believe it is made that way. I went this direction because i wanted performance and i was going to need a fuel system anyway. So i shot two birds with one shot.

I havent got mine regulated but i do know that it idles at 27-30 psi.

I dont think that you will get a lopy idle out of any cam. If you want that you will have to get bigger cross tubes and bigger injectors.

I dont have any experience with the other cams but im sure their all about the same. If your wanting a cam and performance i would go with the cam and mech lp. Youll have better luck out of it then the electric lps. Cost wise if you do all the labor you might even come out cheaper.

Firemed made the correction, but just for clarification I meant mechanical lift pump, not injection pump. My idle is funky sometimes, but that might have more to do with my hot rod IP than the cam. I have no experience with other brands of cams, but I can tell you that the dyno showed a 300 rpm improvement in spool after swapping to a helix 2.

I could actually tell that i had a little faster spool up also. Im running a SPS 66. The EGTs were down also by about 150 or so.

Thanks for the info. is mechanical lp something new, this is the first that i have heard of it. Hope i don't sound like to much of a retard with all the questions. Isn't 27-30 to much psi for the internals in the injection pump just something that i have heard?

The mechanical lift pump is nothing new. I have been running mine for a few years now.

I don't even run a FP gauge any longer. But, I do have a $8 rebuild kit under the seat.

The mech lp is for the 12v's. If or when you get a cam and if you get it with a 12v lobe youll do away with the electronic lp and buy one for a 12v to replace the electric one. It goes under where the 24v lp goes. 27-30 at idle probably is too high but ive been running it for over 2 years with no problem. It goes higher, just dont know how much. Probably not too much cause with my 220s it would pull it down to the mid 20s when i would floor it.

My fp gauge has been unhooked for quiet a while too. the thing kept tapping against the peg on my gauge. guess i need a 60 lb now. i also have a second one, i didnt know my fuel gauge sending unit is going bad and i ran out of fuel twice (still showing 1/4 tank) so i thought maybe the lp was going and bought another. oh well now i have two.

With a simflo regulator from vulcan performance I get 18 psi at idle and 22 at cruise. Never more, never less
