hey guys, the guys over at cummins forum told me to come check ya'll out. i just fried my cummins 24v but its rebuildable except for the cam and turbo. heres my question been looking at the hamilton big stick to put in it, what do ya'll think about this CAM or others? also what else will i need to go along with a street or performance CAM? im not wanting to build a big truck, might add a Quadzilla later and maybe a lil bigger turbo not sure though. any other suggestions to do in the rebuild before everything is back together. thanks

that's really a loaded question over here. The best thing you can do is a search here on cams. You'll fine many, many threads pages long on the subject. Really though if you're not gonna build the truck, why spend the money on a performance cam ?

If you are building a mild mannered rig- 550hp or under- spend your money elsewhere. If you are looking to project this rig to higher numbers then go for it.

my mechanic who does alot of sled pulling and builds tells me might as well put a performance cam in it instead of a stock one sense its gotta be replaced, guys over at CF say i'll see a lil better spool up, lower EGTs, and lil better MPGs. id also like to put some mild towing injectors not sure how big though. im fairly new to dodges i know more about the powerstrokes.

Your looking at adding 15 peak hp, a broader power band, and more usable power.

Anything is better than stock.

At your level, with your goals I'd do the cheapest cam you can.

Actually, I'd try to find a used stocker and spend the money elsewhere in the build...

Anyone think the guys at CF sent him over here hoping he'd get crucified for asking a question like this??

Personally, I put a F1 Helix 2 in my tow rig, and am EXTREMELY happy about what it did...70mph cruising EGT's are down about 200* pulling 35K lbs GVW, and mileage is up a bit as well. That said, not a thing wrong with the stocker if you need to save a little cash;)

I hear mixed all over on this site. But friends that have spent some money on cams absolutely love the difference in drive ability. And that is exactly what I am after. I don't want a truck that is good at just one thing.

If you are going to have to buy a new cam anyway, you may as well go for a good aftermarket cam like a Hamilton.

MY vote goes to Diesel pros, I have one in my truck and a friend has one in his mild 12v and both of our power bands are awsome. You can find them on here under the vendor section

i have a hamilton big cam being installed at this moment. I will let you know what I think when i get my truck back today.
