Can anyone tell me what pistons are in these engines?

Wondering if anyone has some info on these 2 engines. Both are from box vans.

The first has no IP, looking at the injectors it had a VE pump.
CPL 0938
SN 45281495

The other still has an A pump, has a storm block.
CPL 1948
SN 45989800

Mostly interested in the pistons, what bowl type and CR.

And what is available for the VE head for injectors?

:thankyou2:

well for the first ESN, it is a VE rotary pump engine, piston part # is 3907163. this engine is really low HP like 135hp and 390trq., im not sure if that makes the internals less desirable that other CPL's, i know it would any other time. also found on quickserve that this engine is rated for high altitude, and was designed for off highway, soo not sure if that was the engine that should be in that van???
second ESN, it is a A pump, piston part # is 3928673. this engine is rated at 165hp. this engine is also a non road engine, and is actually for a ji case/ komatsu application according to the fuel pump specs. sooo i don't know why either one of those engine would be in box vans???
i can't find any info on the bowl type or compression ratio, i am thinking that the engine with the rotary pump has a piston that has a bowl that is a little bit larger just like the 1st. gens. hopefully somone else may have some knowledge on these two part #'s.
as far as the the VE head injectors, you can use the 7mm injectors in any 12v head, but if the head is for 9mm injectors, you need a special sleeve that allows you to use the 7mm injector in the 9mm head. that sleeve part # is 3919358. hope this helps! sorry to hear about your truck roachie!

CPL 0938 pistons are the same as the non I/C 1st Gen, your better option of the two.

Thanks.

I was told they were from vans, guess they were wrong. The A pump engine has and engine driven air compressor though? Ive got a set of VP rods so they arent an issure.

Would those be the 155* style? Im not too familiar with them.

Wouldn't the 9mm injectors have an advantage in flow? Seems the internal nozzle passages could be far bigger.

Piston.

The only difference between a 9mm nozzle and 7mm nozzle, the nozzle on right was originally 9mm.

ah i was hoping weston would chime in. are the pistons different for the intercooled 1st. gens.? i did a comparison on the 1st esn, and a 92' esn and the pistons part #'s were not the same?

Yes they are different, they are much more similiar to the styles used in '94-98.

10-4 that clears that up. oh by the way i was able to put a band aid on the sticking whatever in the pump, a heavy dose of Power Service, and half a bottle of lucas upper cylinder lubricant/fuel injector cleaner does wonders! truck fires right up no matter how cold or hot the engine has been, it has started with a bump of the key eveytime, not even one hiccup. i am to blame for this, for it has been at least 3 tanks of diesel since i have run any kind of additive, and it obviously helps in my situation. still the pump needs to be looked at, and will be soon hopefully!

286210

Ok weston, I give.

I've seen those recommended before. They have a thicker TRL and a narrower wrist pin. Past that I know nothing on them.

Would these be recommended over the 370 Marine pistons I have? I think I will be needing the larger bowl for my engine.

I would say so. I made a poor choice myself on the last set and changing them now, Ive not made up my mind between 286110 and the 286210. They both have the same TRL of 14.13, just the 110 may allow a tad more timing but drop the static comp. a bit over the 210. 110 has a 47cc bowl over the 43cc of the 210. Im thinking either would work real nice and exp. over what I have now. Ryan

I would like to use these since the rings are already broke in well. Although I want some lower compression with a bigger bowl.

Didnt you burn some pistons?

I caught it early. Torn it down due to the thrust being out, but found #1 bowl to be rounding off or melting. Just a poor choice of piston for what Im doing, bowl is so narrow it wont allow for hardly any timing.
