Guys, Can you steer me in the right direction?
I have to paint small parts on the motor during my rebuild.
Should I use --
1] spray can
2] brush
3] experiment with low pressure air brush

I have never used the air brush. Is it hard to control & use ?
Should I clear over it all ?

Thanks,

POWDER COAT!!! Powder coat everything. We use a Eastwood Hotcoat kit with an abandoned kitchen oven. Powder coat is hard and lasts well. http://www.eastwoodco.com/jump.jsp?...ODUCT&path=1,2,458,459,460&KickerID=68&KICKER

How difficult is the prep on that Brandon?

On steel it's easy, jsut clean up as much as you can and powder it. A 4" grinder with a flap disk or a media blaster works fine.

Cast aluminum is the hardest to prep. The oil gets in its pores and sweats out in the oven. We found out the best way after sandblasting was to wipe with acetone and bake at 500F for 20 minutes. Then wipe with a white rag and acetone again. If the rag's clean, then you're good. If not, wipe it and bake again until it's clean.

Brandon,

Thanks for the idea. Great job.!
Did you save room for any cookies :hehe: J/K

I sent my parts to the local powder coater for the chrome like finish.:cheer:

While the truck is minus the motor, I'm going to clean that cavity & throw some chassis saver paint on those rails.

Tim,

The parts are brackets, heater tubes, anything I can remove while I patiently wait for the machine shop to get-r-done.

Yep, hopefully chipmnk will chime in with how he likes the chrome/gloss black parts in his engine compartment. Maybe even a picture if we're lucky...

Brandon,

Even if you can't get that chipmonk to cooperate, :hehe:

I'll shoot a picture of mine when it gets done.:Cheer:

LOL PM the user 'chipmnk' on here for a picture if he has any. Otherwise I'll try to take some this evening at the pull.

I think the powder coating turned out really nice. If you are expecting the real shiny chrome look you might be disappointed, the pc has a shine to it but not like real chrome. It still looks good though, and I would definitely do it again. I don't have any pics yet and I won't be home for another week, so unless Brandon wants to take the pics and post them he can. Otherwise you might have to wait for a week or so.

chipmnk,
I look forward to your photo's as well as Brandon's.:thankyou2:

I will be ok with the results of the PC. As long as it looks better than the previous finish.:rockwoot:

Brandon,
Sometimes the little inside humor escapes me.:hehe: Thanks for the explanation.
