Well my buddies and I pulled my engine out yesterday due to some really bad running and what not. So I took the head off today to investigate.

Dropped #1 intake valve.

Which screwed up the head, #1, #2, and #3 pistons and also hammered on my #1 injector.

None of the cylinders except #5 had any crosshatch.

SOOO I guess I am either going to give this one a complete rebuild rings, bearings etc. or try to source out a complete running engine that I feel confident about not having any problems...

I will get pictures and load them on here tomorrow.

I have a Cummins block stiffener plate that will make its way into the new engine, are there any other things I should look into adding or beefing up while it is completely apart?

The only good thing is even though #1 got destroyed the cylinder wall doesn't look that bad so I am hoping I can just rehone all the cylinders, should I try to borrow or source out a deck plate for doing that?

Thnx

punch it out!!!!

20 or 40 over, main studs, girdle, new bearings....Whala...New motor!

its called a torque plate but if you are just gonna do a clean up there is no reason to pay the extra expense

the only correct way to hone a block is yes with a torque plate but you have to have the block heated to operating temps too

its expensive

you dont do it for just a clean up

.50 over, have a 6l that doesn't suck!

If you redo yours might be a good time to throw in some upgraded rods while you are in there.
