Any tips/tricks to make the job easier or a little less messy? What do you do to prime the system after the change? Thanks.

No real way to not get messy. Lay some stuff to soak up the fuel when you pull the filter out of the frame rail. Other then that its pretty much straight forward. Just turn the key 3 or 4 times to the on position to fill the fuel bowl up. Then fire it up and check for leaks. Ryan

I remove the fuel filler cap, remove the HFCM drain plug, then remove the plastic filter cap (if you don't have the correct size socket, get one because it makes things so much easier and cleaner and makes removing the cap very easy. Plus it only costs about $10-15)
Change the filters, replace the caps, cycle the key a couple of times, then fire it up. The system is self priming so there are no worries there.
Start to finish is about 20 min.

where do you get the HFCM socket at for $15?? I'll be all over that.

you have the DRAIN PLUG upgrade ?

other than that its as the others say...ive never had an idle or
smoke problem after filter changes...i cycle the key 3 or 5 times (wait
til i hear the pump stop running each time) and then fire it up.

oh yeah get some papertowels or rags...stuff 'em along the frame rail
under the hfcm...itll keep the fuel from running down the frame rail
and killing the grass or spotting the driveway.

you should get about a pint or maybe 2 at the most....drain it til it
STOPS.

i should add that a FUNNEL in to a jar works well....something that allows you
to get UNDER the HFCM but OVER the frame rail...

i stole a vase from my wife (hey i gave 'er the flowers and the vase
anyway...so doent it make it mine too ;) the cheap glass vase (more like
a large jar) is flared at the top and indented at just past the
top so it fits nicely between the HFCM/Drain and the frame...it is really
very benefical (thanks honey) for catching most of the draining
fuel and reducing the MESS from dribbling down the front
drive shaft or frame rail.

a funnel...w/ some poly tube on it, draining into a catch pan would probably
work just as well...but dont tell my wife :D

:hehe:

:thankyou2: I just ordered mine

Just becaue I didn't see anyone mention the size. Its a 36mm socket for the fuel cap. It also doubles at the oil cap socket as well. 4x4 guys can use a long extension with a swivle on the end to get themselves further away from the fuel explosion. If you can lift the truck and be on a roll around cart, it makes it easier to escape the mess.
