I did a search and didnt really find what i was lookin for. I am planning on putting a pistol grip shifter in the pickup. i dont know much about this kind of stuff and was wondering if anyone has done this to a second gen. I know that they have been done on some 3rd gens and i think that they are wicked sweet. some questions i have right know are will the new shifter move the cable the same length as the factory one? will a three speed shifter work with the o/d shut off button or will i need a 4 speed shifter? and how big of a pain in the a$$ do you think that this might be? any input on this will be greatly appreicated!

the 3 speed shifter will work, but its not going to work any differently. its going to shift 1st 2nd and overdrive, and the overdrive on/off will still work. if you looking to actually shift the trans w/ the shifter its going to need some sort of valve body to allow you to do so.

i put a B&M unimatis in my truck a few months ago, it comes with everything but you will want a longer cable, it comes with a 5' and i needed a 6' one for mine to work properly and not be kinked

any 3 speed shifter that fits a 727 will work for the swap they come with a new lever that goes on the trans so it works properly

i made a 6 inch tall base that i moulded into the box inder the dash for it so that its at a good height in the truck easy to reach and comfortable to rest your hand on it while driving.

for the factory shift lever all you need to do is remove the covers off of the coulmn and pop out the roll pin that holds the lever in there and then unplug the overdrive button and wire in a momentary switch to the two wires for the O/D off to work, took me 3 hours to do the swap, good luck with it

If you really want to get creative you could take the cable for the prnd21 and attach it to the new ****er in the right spot for proper operation so it lines up with the correct spot on the dash when in the gears

I've got the same thing that 01CumminsSport has in my truck works great and they're cheaper than the ratchet shifters. Wished I would have built a base for mine though.

Ya the unimatic is cheaper but id does have a few things that i dont like, no neutral lock out but does have reverse and a lighted gear position indicator or gear position indicator at all, mos of the time when yo pull bach into D it will go into 2. thats about it other than that its a good shifter that is easy to install.
