Clipping the water pump for high rpm use?

where are people clipping the water pump?

here's a pic of the pump and I can only think of clipping the vanes here on the edges...see pics

I removed the ring.We use to add rings to enclose the impellers backside in the 70's & 80's before they offered high volume water pumps & kits like they have now for high HP gasser that had overheating big blocks.The people that sell these kits now claim that they add 25 to 30% increase in flow.So I just removed mine & so far so good!

thanks....I've already put my pump back in....but I think the sealing ring has been all used up and I'll probably mod it next time it's out of the truck
