Clutch switch problems??

I have a 99 5speed and my clutch switch keeps acting up, sometimes if i run it everyday it will work fine and start right up but I got a new truck so this one sits alot and the issue is getting worse. I want to be done with even pressing in the clutch to start it. I didn't know if on these old trucks if you can just cut the wire and splice them together like the new ones of not. Any help or suggestions?

To bypass pushing the clutch pedal down, unplug the switch and insert a jumper wire to complete the circuit.

my 01 i just cut the wires and spliced them together so you shouldn't have any problems.
