On a high hp common rail built for pulling purposes up to 4000 rpm what rods are holding up the best? (not billet) Common rail stockers shot peened or maybe 12v shot peened rods? Any Ideas looking for about 800hp but to be built strong and somewhat reliable.

Thanks Jared

Marine rods that are shot peened and cryo treated. These lasted the last four years in Scotts Mod truck. This is judging from learned information not personal experience.

Ok thanks we are looking to the shot peened 12v rods, I have a 06' CR with stock bottom end that is over 950hp but it has a pretty easy life and we haven't had any problems with it.

a guy on one of the forums had a 07 or 06 at over 800 ran it pritty hard. Broke one rod finally and tore it appart. come to find out all 5 otherw where bent.

so when someone reffers to shot pinged is this just bead blasted?????? And how do you cyro treat a rod???

Bent all 6 of my rods at 800 hp and messing with water. Going back with polished, peened and cryoed 24v rods.

I wouldn't use the stock PM rods either, bent every rod as well, #5 made a exit.

Just look at the narrow part of the beam here, the older rods are wider there and thats were they need it.

Went with billet rods myself, blowing a rod out the side sucks.

Heard the same story with the viper engine, maybe 03 or about they switched to a pm rod.....same thing big horse guys swap them out in a hurry.

There are a pile of these out there now......

A few broke rods from sticking a piston, but no rod will take that.

I have two rods that look exactly like that one but didnt have any exit the block.

Stock rods in our truck too 03 CR motor and we are running well over 1150hp to the wheels and have never had one issue with them.

Do you have a measurement of the narrow part of the beam?
I have mine out and will be able to get a measurement tomorrow for spits and giggles.

Went with Shot peened, and hardened tongue and grove rods from a 12v in my build...

I know Woodruff recommends USA rods for shot peening. How do you tell if you have USA rods. Mine are throwing me for a loop.
You really can't read it from the pic but behind the bearing it says "Made in the USA"
