Im wanting to experiment with some holset turbos for compounds on my setup. Will be built for about 700hp and wanted to know what ya'all thought would be a good setup? Hx40 over hx55? Ive never run holsets so would like to try em out

depends on sizes of turbos. ive ran a 62 over a 71 but your hx40 is prolly a 60wheel and an hx55 is like 65-71mm so depends.. in theory its a little small. an s475 is a proven combo and a lot of guys love the set up. dieselpowerauto sells them for $650 i think

well the ht60 is reverse rotation and old technology and has its own flange
the hx60 is new technology my hx60 has an inconel turbine with a titanium compressor wheel to where my ht60 is cast

I noticed the ht60 was reverse. Does that make any difference in anything? Logic says no, but physics are beyond me

Ok, was jus curious as to whether or not it throws a swirl in the air as it travels that could have any adverse effects

I work with water all day every day and i know if it swirls one way from a pump to another that swirls it another way it can cause some disruptive turbulence. Thanks for the info!

All depends on what you already have and how much money your wanting to spend, if you have a 40 and a 3B like I did it was a no brainier to build that setup but if I were building a setup I would go with better turbos, S475 is a great choice, S300 series is a better top turbo and they range from $1200-1800.

The good thing about s400 series is right out of the box, stock they are good chargers and run pretty cheap, until you get into billet wheels and such.

Should mention that an HX60 is more comparable to the standard S480. I just wonder about the spool time of the S475 vs. the HT60. Both of them are dirt cheap anyway.

Well, my motor came with a hx35 that needs a rebuild, but found an hx40 with a hot pipe for 650. Should set me up pretty good! Now jus gotta find an ht or hx60

I just built an s362 over a 71mm hx 55. The hx55 has a milled from solid compressor wheel but the flange is really weird. I had to get creative making the hotpipe so there was no turbulence entering the turbine housing. The flange is like two half moons divided. I vote for an hx60 but the hx55s make decent towing twins.
