Drop it in and forget about it? previous owner said it ran fine for him. Or do I send it to HTT or ED and have them replace the compressor wheel? Appears to have standard play in the shaft and spins very free. I can not touch the side of the housing while turning the wheel.

Also, how do you measure the exhaust wheel? if I read the measuring tape correct it's 3" across the middle which is 76mm. the compressor side is 2.5" and that's right at 64mm

HTT 64/71/13ss.

However, that exhaust side is 3", it might be a 76mm exhaust wheel. I'm curious as to how that may or may not be true...

I've been told, I may be able to just lightly file the blades down to smooth things out to prevent any week spots and I'll be good to go if I choose not to replace it. We'll see. I'm also getting a quote on a new wheel.

Had my hopes up for a day off work tomorrow to have some fun... ohh well.

Replace the wheel. You'd wished you had when it comes apart at 100,000+ rpm. Send it in the HTT those guys will take care of it for you, im sure it will be resonable.... but trust me its "not" resonable to rebuild one of these engines, so dont risk it. JMO

can that wheel be replaced while the charger is on the truck?

is it something that I can do my self?

I believe I got some history on this charger and the source says that htt said to run it and would be fine.

Something as precisely balanced and a compressor wheel...IMHO..would not be fine with pieces of it missing.

fwiw mine is kinda doing the same thing after 55,000 miles. My Stocker looked just like it, and have a few friends that have seen it hit and miss on different chargers

I think a replacement wheel is cheap insurance, compared to running it and possibly wrecking an engine. I've seen quite a few wheels that look like that, I haven't heard of one having an issue unless it has V type chips that eventually crack the wheel later down the road. Replace the wheel and sleep better at night not wondering if tomorrow is gonna be the day you make a post in the CARNAGE! area with a trashed engine. $.02

Send it out for refurbishing. The tolerances and balances of the compressor wheel are not optimum with the chipped leading edges of the compressor wheel. Have a new wheel installed and the unit balaced. If not, the turbo will be suspect to Boom Factor.

I for one would not put that on my truck, id be getting that thing fixed ASAP!
I like piece of mind, shouldnt be that much to have it redone!

Are you getting a quote from ED or HTT?

I will be calling both this morning, as well as I have some numbers from PDP I'm waiting on as well.

From the looks of things, this poor turbo has been passed around like an un-wanted Orphan all over the country. I suppose I'll foster it for a bit. It just needs a hair cut and a shower.

When you look at it that way...I wonder if you could use it as a tax write off? LOL

you can easily do it yourself, HTT sells rebuild kits and replacement wheels that are already balanced. everything you need to rebuild a charger, just remember the compressor wheel has reverse threads!! mine looks like that i have ran it for a while, i have seen them worse than that run for a long time and never cause a problem. if you can swing it fix it.
