ive searched around a little looking for answers but nothing really close to my problem that i could find. i have a 98.5 24v, my problem is at around 45 or 50 mph the convert will randomly unlock and lock right back when i hit a grade and if it does it more than one time i can usually let off and it will usually stop, but it doesnt do it at all around 55 or 60. i have a garmon tranny with triple disc i know its not the tranny, its in the electronics. just trying to get an idea of what it could be. ive been told tps but i havent gotten any codes and i was told it was replaced about 10k miles ago buy previous owner. i hate to drop the money on a tps and it not fix it. also not the battery terminals i even replaced the ends hoping it would fix it. only mod to the truck is comp box and still does it with it off. anyone had this problem or have an idea of what to check? hoping to get it fixed on my own before i have to spend money on labor at a shop. any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have the same problem and there was another discussion about this in here. Take a look at it and see if it matches your

sounds like my problem im gonna try the ground rewire and see if it work thanks for the info man!

lock up happens at around 45 to 50 depending on the truck so if u change your throttle input even if you dont think you are it will disengage because thats right where it begins to engage. a cheap way of getting around this would be to put a lock up switch on there and once it locks up just fliping or pulling the switch (depending on which switch you use) and dont worry about it untill you start to slow down then turn it off

ive had the truck for about a year and had the tranny built the week after buying the truck but the converter has just started locking and unlocking like this in the last few weeks and i do know it is unlocking abnormally. ive actually been considering the manual lockup switch just havent had the time.

from what ive been told its actually the apps. I also thought it was the converter but i was told otherwise. it's worth a try. if thats not the problem all you lose is a little time no money involved.

well im starting to think i had a bad connections on my apps i unplugged it the night before last and disconnected the batteries plugged it back in then did the relearning thing and no problem so far but if it starts again ill reground it and see what happens. ill keep ya posted. thanks again for the input!

if you look into to the BD apps noise iscolater(dont know exact spelling) if will fix it. It is only about 20 bucks

Spray a whole can of brake cleaner through your alternator. Engine off and cold ofcourse. Electrical RIF's are a pain and diesel soot doesnt help the situation. This cured the same issue i had with the converter locking in and out around 45-50 mph.

ordered the bd apps isolator. be here thurs day just in time for a trip to fl. ill post my findings on monday.

I just put the BD apps isolator on and it didn't help I still have the o/d locking and unlocking problem , But the strange thing is it's not all the time some days the truck drives with no problems then the next day it will act up .

my neighbor has the same problem but only after a trans rebuild. i talked to the builder he said that most likely it is the ground behind the starter, must remove starter, clean ground, put some vasoline on it and also ground the apps plug like mentioned above. he feels certain this will fix it, i am going to try to slide over the neighbors house this weekend and fix it. will post findings.

well i put the isolater on thurs and put almost 1k miles on it since and not problems with unlocking yet so maybe its fixed for now. it was doing it on the way home from work thurs so i put it on as soon as i got home didnt even give it time to cool off any then drove it right after with no prob.

dunno bout you, but my converter does lock up in OD till 50mph....

maybe u guys should pass that doobie around one more time.

thats the prob its suppose to be locked not lock and unlock rapidly . the isolator made mine STAY locked like its suppose to. so pass it on around!

alternator rf

try driving the truck with all the wires too loose from the alternator, on with hi mileage the brushes start bouncing that causes interference, another is to get a radio shack inline suppressor and make up a pigtail and put it one at time on the field wires of the alternator, there is an old tech bulletin for this problem on old first gen trucks
