Is it possible to run just one battery in our trucks? I was thinking one big Optima on the passenger side so there would be alot more room under there. Any thoughts?

if it would be fine why did they come with 2?

Also..if you notice with people doing twins they relocate the passenger side batter to the driver side. I will guess they kept the second battery there for a reason. It would have been alot easier to just not put it back.

It would probably be fine in the summer when the oil is thinner but wait 'til it gets cold and you'll wish you had both when cranking it up. O, ya, you're in Texas, I forgot. Probably won't hurt you down there too much. Give it a shot. The worst it could do is fry your starter from low voltage while cranking....or your ECM's and other crap...better yet, don't do it. If your voltage drops to 6 volts or less while cranking you could really fry some stuff.

You could run dual optimas on one side, that would open up your other side and keep dual batteries.

I have heard one is not sufficient due to the loads that the Glow plugs and starter place on it. Relocate them to the bed in a nice dual billet holder, and that would give ya lots of room.

Ok, after reading these responses, Im keeping two. However, I would like to put them both on one side. Is it possible to put em both on the passenger side or can you only put em on the driver side? Ive only seen it done on the driver side is why Im asking.

See, I love the way youve got yours set up, Rob! I just want to do that on the other side of the engine bay. I dont think it would fit doing it the way you did since i still have my intake in the factory location.

no problems with my single factory battery in my '04... no grids in it...

started just fine up in Colorado... we'll see how she does this winter though.

eventually I'm going to put two batteries under the truck mounted to the frame and free up the space on the driver's side too.

Forrest has a good idea Colin. You could always mount the batteries on the frame. That would certainly be a good idea for you.

I believe you could grind down the edges of the factory battery tray on the pass. side and cram 2 batteries on there, I remember some guy did it with his 7.3, can't remember his name, though.

Robs battery setup looks kick ass! I have never seen the battery hold down like that--custom, I am guessing?
