Coolant Improver Kit

you dont have to pull the head it makes it easier or if you got the trans out its easier but it can be done either way with or without pulling head or trans its just a pain in the butt

I figure that when I o-ring my head I'm gonna go ahead and do that. It dang sure can't hurt anything.

The guys that have done this, how do the lines attach? You tap into one of the heater lines right?

Which one, and use a "T", or do I have to do something else?

I don't have instructions on this, just have the parts, so I'm not completely sure :bang

Guess I am one of the first to do this or did my question fall into the cracks and get missed?

I'm just bringing this back to the top hoping someone has some info for me.

Call purdieselpower, i'm sure they'll instruct you on how to do it from there!

Not sure myself, haven't done one yet.

We've been using a BOE Kit (blowout eliminator) on the '05 for a year now - works great, no need to jack with the freeze plugs and has 2 adjustable stages, as well as a bypass valve and driver notification circuit that activates during a coolant overpressure event... no puking on the track, either.

Looks like the plumbing shop blew up under your hood! :hehe::hehe:

The "kit" I got from Cummins was around $90 from what I remember. I will need to buy some heater hose and a T. I'll probably also put in a shutoff valve for winter operations if it's true that the heater doesn't work as well.

I emailed Pure Diesel Power a few months ago I just saw the email (have several hundred unread emails)

"The plate bolts onto the back (of the head), then you run a hose into the heater return hose and use a "T" fitting to tee it in."

They also said I would need to remove the head, or possibly with the trans out I could do it.

I'm going to try with the trans in and head in though.

I guess because it's hard to get that freeze plug out, no one does this??

Well if anyone is wondering, I got this installed today.

I just used a long 3/8" extension (around 36") that I use for transmission bolts. A few wacks with a sledge and the freeze plug came right out. Was almost too easy!

Do yourself a favor though and drain at least 2 gallons out of the radiator. I drained a gallon and found out that wasn't enough. LOL

The plate is is a bit of a pain to get in place and tighten the bolts, but it's not too bad. The whole setup is easy enough I'm surprised it's not a common "need to do this" type mod considering the stories I read about the back cylinder melting down since it runs hotter than the rest.

No need to remove anything. Yes having the trans or head off would make it easier, but I wasn't going to pull anything if I didn't have to.
