Ok, my buddy Stephen (olred07) has always been into powerstrokes, and i have always been a dodge guy. I had the chance to get rid of my 04 basic no power anything cummins 2wd for a 6.0 powerstroke kingranch auto 4x4, bla bla bla, I love this truck, my dad had it for a few years and we made a deal and traded. He was getting a new tahoe so he went and traded mine old dodge in. Did i mention i love my new 6.0? well the onlything wrong with it is that it has 170000miles and the you know what egr crap. I researched the problems of the 6.0 before making the deal and i kinda knew what i was getting into. I have helped Stephen with allot of the stuff he has done on his truck, EGR delete, cross over lines, buncha stuff. so I know my way around the 6.0. Getting to the point...

My 6.0 has started puking coolent...what a suprise. I have a few questions for you guys today. First, there is this strange grey sludge/goo on the inside of my degas tank. what is it, and were could this come from? there is no coolant in my oil. Also the coolent leak on my 6.0 is not coming from the degas cap, in fact, I dont know were it is. It is significant; when I pulled into my dads place, I stepped out of the truck and it was flooding from someplace...any ideas?

stephen says oil cooler and egr cooler, I hope the head gaskets are still good. Im not driving it untill I figure it out so I dont get myself any further up this **** creek.

That kinda looks like emulsified oil. Is your coolant the "gold" kind?

Yea I thought so too,
I cant tell the kind of coolant cause we added water. It lost allot

Sooo you have lost a load of coolant and its not in crankcase?

You have a blown oil cooler for one. (Oil pressure is greater than coolant pressure.) That is a textbook example of a bad oil cooler. (The milkshake goo in the coolant res.)

If the coolant is going out the exhaust, it will look like steam. (If you have a muffler, it may be getting caught up in it until it evaporates.)

Just a thought.

You might have a cavitated front cover. Pull the water pump and check the cover.

yes, but it was on the ground. I cut the truck off immediately and it was still "boiling" out. I have checked the oil several times.

Thanks, Stephen talked to Adam about an oil cooler rebuild kit, but he said if the housing is messed im gonna have to get a new one, $$$. Im hoping I didnt blow a head gasket, or the oil cooler housing. It runs great and I didn't notice any smell or steam out of the exhaust ...fingers crossed. I might be ordering a egr delete kit from Adam tomorrow and get this thing torn down by tomorrow night and see whats up.... Or I could just take it to Fort worth and spend some $$$$ on studs, egr, the works. I dont know. lol. We are gonna call and see if he will knock off any on the price if we take the truck up there "bare" and do the egr ourselfs...what do yall think?

Thanks, I will look at this tom... cause what ever I decide to do, this truck is getting torn down tom!! gosh I love working on a 6.0 in deep east texas heat....

Thanks for the advise guys

yea, thats a bit more then what he explained on the phone..that's more then just cross contamination, as doug said check that cover

well now we are getting into 6.0 territory i am unsure about, that front cover sounds like a you know what. What makes yall think its more than just cross contamination? the fact i dont have water in my oil?

any more info on the oil cooler rebuild kit? im not to sure what exactly could be rebuilt?

sorry for all the q's, I will do some searching on the front cover and oil cooler rebuild.

Ford sells you just the core that sits in the oil now. You pop out the old one and put in the new one. Its pretty easy to do. Then get some purple simple green degreaser to get the oil out of the coolant. Remove the thermostat from the housing and reassemble to get the coolant clean.

purple simple green huh? lol thanks Doug, thats a good idea...A coolant filter kit is on my grocery list now...o what a fun money pit this six oh is.

Purple Simple Green is the aluminum safe degreaser. DO NOT USE ZEP OR ANYTHING THAT SAYS NOT SAFE ON ALUMINUM. You have been warned.

Alright, did some research, and have decided, i want to take her into a powerstroke specialist. for one, i want head studs. two, I dont have the equipment or time to do this. Three, I need my truck! I own a lawn care business and Its hard to pull a trailer like that without a truck!

So, I was refered to company called diesel dynamics, around the ft worth are...any body done business with them? any comments about them?

thanks,

partially found the problem guys....split in the lower rad hose. It only opens up while completely warmed up. when it opens up its crazy...go figure. anyways, im a pretty sure that my oil cooler is leaking into my coolant too...at such a rate that it is building up into this cream/goo, it seems to stick to the sides of the degas bottle...i will see if it is stuck to the sides of the rad hose when i take the busted one off.
