:ft: On my 97 truck i have to make sure the thermostat is open before i go the track. If i dont it will open and blow coolant all over the place.I have changed the thermostat 4 different times and the same thing happens. I have put a new radiator in the truck flushed coolant 3 times. I have done a pressure check on motor and dont seem to have a headgasket problem. My 99 i have never had this problem.Everybody gives me a hard time that i let my truck run so long before we pull.I was just wondering if any of you have this problem.People tell me to take the thermostat out but i drive it on street on fair weather days.Never been drove in winter.Any help would be appreciatedthanks.

how many RPM's are you running, are you over spinning the water pump causing it to build too much pressure???? ive seen that happen before on pulling trucks....

when the trucks are building too much pressure where is the coolant releasing at?

never seen it up close enough to really see, rather not cause that water burns a little :bang , ive seen rubber radiator hoses blow along with radiators in the trucks, oh and lets not forget the head gaskets.........

when im pulling with my 06 and its building upwards of 70 pds of boost it fills my puke tank full of coolant and when it cant hold any more it sends it out the overflow tube. sometimes it will blow quite a bit out . when the engine cools the puke tank should send the coolant back to the radiator but for some reason it doesn't .

thats cause your truck is getting hot from the sound of it
I know it naturally gets hot when pulling but when the engine cools the puke tank should drain back in the radiator. for some reason it doesent.

I saw a pallet of these at Dr Performance , and the price was to low to pass up $349

i had the same prob and pulled my t stat out and also drove it all summer long it would get up to like 150 max driving it around but pulling it would get up to like 180 ish
and i was also still blowing freeze plugs out all summer long too with t stat in or out

forgot to mention there is something cheaper than a 350$ water pump if you are haveing freezeplug probs they are billett freeze plugs call keating machine they are like 30 for the ones on the side of the motor and 35 for front and rear plug

Anyone try that $100 return kit that removes the rear freeze plug and puts a plate that runs the coolant to a return line? Might be worth looking into.

tried it it will still push out the freeze plugs on the side of the block if you have too much pressure in the system either from water pump or head gasket. whatever it may be but i believe a pressure regulator would help out

i had this problem 2 it would get hot and just pour out the puke tank but that was before i built the billet cam motor we put the billet freeze plugs in the side and front and back with a pressure reg at the back set on 30psi or so i think i dont run a thermostst thou but to this day hasent been a problem after
