Are the heads interchangeable between a 5.9VP, 5.9CR, and 6.7CR?

Could I take a 6.7 head and put it on a VP block?
Could I take a VP24V head and put it on a 5.9CR? 6.7CR?

I have heard the oil passages don't line up between the block and the head. Anyone know about this?

IC-SMOKE did the write up on this for the cr head to vp block. Pretty sure it was on the cummins forum too.

I read the write up on it. Talks about the water ports, I have heard the oil passages do not line up for the rockers, can anyone confirm?

I talked with Adam Winslet, Mike J, Darryl (talked with EEP) and all good news!!
The head is a direct bolt on!! the 2006-07 5.9 heads flow the best and thankfully I found a 06 head cheap! woohoo! ONLY issue is the connecting tubes as the 3G are held in with a nut and the lines screw onto the tubes where the 2G screw into the head BUT EEP has a connecting tube that is able to use the VP injector lines!!

The CR head really wasnt that bad to install, The connector tubes have to be from a CR motor, but they are larger and have the screen in them still. This is nice because they flow more and still retain the driveability of the stock 24v. There are no provisions for the MAP or IAT sensors so you have to relocate those. The lines were a pain since they now screw on to the connector tubes. Other than that some water jacket porting was done, And there you go. It does make more top end power, probably 30-40hp if I were to guess.

Im not 100% but my understanding is the 03/04 heads dont flow as much air as a 04.5-07 5.9L head... I had to massage out the water jackets (ill post later) which wasnt hard, other than that and the connecting tubes its a pretty straight forward swap

The above was all quotes. I never heard anything about oil passages. Call Gus at Farmboysdiesel he could probably tell ya. Mine should be here next week so I'll take a close look at it and see.
Dan, I'm shipping the smarty tomorrow. :Cheer:

Thanks for the info. I am concerned about the oil passages, more than anything. I can make the water stuff work.

yea the mapp and iat sensors can easily be drilled and tapped after some material is welded to the intake plate. kinda worried about the oil passage too but don't believe it's an issue. i have a friend up the road that has some junk ones laying around maybe he has a cr and vp head so i can look at both.

i don't believe so, same injectors , i know the lines are the same.

i used 06 CR head with 06 tubes. called scheids for some p-pump to CR feed tube lines. the lines were cheeper then p-pump to vp head. a lttle port work on water ports and that was it. untill i went to put the pump on. the 98.5 to 02 head has a hump under the intake for the p-pump to fit, the CR head does not. i removed the head and machined a piece out, then made a alum plate to bolt back in with a hump in it to make room. i did check to see if the oil ports match and they do on my block. i used a 00 RV block. after starting it up i watched for oil at the rockers. the oil flow was as good as a stock 24v vp head.

Yes we have done this already. (June -July) The oil ports do line up and the complete upper end (Housings, Covers, Push Tubes etc.) must be used. You will also need new high pressure piping to the C/R fill tubes. There was a high spot on the head casting that needed to be altered. Works pretty good though.

So those that have done this, was it a CR block(5.9 or 6.7??) and a VP head, or a CR head and a VP, or 12V block?

How bout a 6.7 with a p-pump? There is no replacement for displacement.:rockwoot:
