The pistons have cracks right on the lip of the bowl. Most of the cracks are less than a 1/4 inch. Should I replace them? I'm not sure how big of an issue this is. I'm also not sure what caused this.

rather be safe then have to just tear the engine apart again down the road....

The truck has a exhaust brake that wasn't working right I think that it was creating back pressure that made it run hot

I just rebuilt an engine that had the some problem. It had 305k on it . but some of the pistons were melted. And my customer asked will that be ok! I said cracks and melted pistons don't get any better they get worse. His injectors were bad also. I think thats what caused the hot spots and melted pistons. Oh yea and the blown head gasket.

This truck also had a blown head gasket. The front bearing in the hx35 is totally trashed. it has about 1/2" side to side movement.

If you have a half inch of play in the turbo your missing some of the wheel and have bigger issues than you think.
