I heard that the crankshafts are different between manual and automatic transmissions in certain year engines. Looking at the crankshaft how can you tell the difference? This particular engine is a late 05, with an ESN of 57435765. Any help would be great.

Thanks,
Paul

I have no idea why the crank would be different. The adapter plate from the rear of the motor to the transmission would be different though.

From 1983-98 1 crank std or man trans
stroke 4.724 (119.99mm)
rods 2.7160-2.7170 (68.986-69.012mm)
mains 3.2672-3.2682 (82.987-83.012mm)
rod fillet .15625 (3.969mm)
main fillet .15625 (3.969mm)
thrust width 1.475-1.477 @#6

from 1998-05
stroke and rods and mains same as 1983-98
but does not list rod an main fillet or thrust width.

I have switched engines from auto to manual and vise verse, only difference is the ecm, engine wire harness and some coolant plumbing.

Thanks for the info guys. I can't for the life of me see any differences, so I'm going to try and use it. Off to the machine shop it goes to be polished and balanced.
