I need to change one for a buddy, how hard is it to do? its easier to do with the vp-44 off correct?

is it worth an extra hours worth of labor to remove/re-install the vp-44 or can the CPS be done with the pump in place

Crankshaft pos sensor is behind the starter, Camshaft pos sensor is behind under the vp44, What year is the truck?

oops i had them mixed up, its a 99 and yes its the crank sensor...so the starter has to come off? thats not too bad then

They can be a real pain to get out. I have found if it does not come out easy, I take a pencil grinder and grind out the sensor down to the o-ring, apply some penetrating oil and then they usually pull right out.

A cam sensor is below the injection pump and while it's easier to change while you have the pump off, it can be done with the pump on. I did it in NAPA's parking lot on a hot motor and it took me 45mins. Little bugger didn't wanna come out.

Did a Cam sensor for a customer and it broke off so i drilled and tapped it to fit a threaded rod and used a slide hammer,

Ive seen that a lot of people break them off and thats how they did it also.

pull the starter and remove the dipstick and have fun,,, More often than not they will break off and you will fight it for a while. I made a tool that I use to pull them out with using a deep well socket.

TJ got it out and switched within 25 minutes, and that is including getting out the tools and putting them away. Not sure what he had to do since I was busy doing other things but is did not seem like it was too much of a PITA.
