Does ford or dodge offer a chassis long enough to support a 16-18ft box with a crew cab configuration? I've been looking into a dodge 5500 or a ford f-550. But need to get 3-4 men to the job site now.

also take a look at the topkick chassis with the 7.8 isuzu motor, they are reasonalble and seem to be reliable, a little bigger than what you wanted but I just saw a 4 year old crew cab one for 22k with low miles with out a bed and it had a long chassis...

my mid 90's 3500hd 14k gvw has 84 cab to axle and had a 13ft utility box on it when i bought it... it can be done...

Stay the hell away from any GM medium duty. We have more wiring issues in those than any vehicle I've ever seen.

I can agree with the wiring, it sucks but for the money with a 7.8 Isuzu they arn't bad,

If you end up with a GM, be absolutely sure to drain the air tank. I have one in right now that needs an exhaust brake and doc filter due to the water.

I seriously recommend against them.
