has any one tried to use the advanced adapters Dodge nv4500 to Ford NP205 transfer case adapter kit with the 47rh auto? they both have 23 spline output shafts. we are going to put a 12 valve in a 1980 K5 frame with a '78 ford dana 60hp up front, and a dana 70hd will follow it. we want this combo for the rear driveshaft length. we have 2 fresh married ford np205 cases all ready sitting here and the dodge cases are kinda spendy, plus no speed sender on the tough ones. this is going to be a street driven-tow-very light off road truck. what do you think?

are you sure they have the same spline counts? i thought auto had 23 and manual had 25 or something like that? maybe not

my buddys NV4500 had a 29spline output. I'm pretty sure they are all pretty much that count.

here is the part number and specs. i found a guy over on the 4tb forums that i think used it in a '78 bronco, but have gotten no answer back yet from him.

FEATURES

The Dodge NV4500 4WD adapter to Ford NP205 / 208 is 1.625” in length.
Adapter material is 356 T6 heat treated aluminum alloy. The adapter kit includes an adapter ring for the Ford transfer case, spud shaft with 31 spline x 23 internal spline, gasket, and adapter instructions.

Transfer case

The Ford transfer cases NP205, NP208, and the various Borg Warner 1300 series are all basically treated the same when it comes to adapting to them. They all have a circular 6 bolt pattern, a 31 spline input, and same index diameter.

if its a 4x4 gas nv4500 it may have 23 spline. but if its a diesel 4x4 one it will be 29. better count yours before you order it. simplest way to not screw it up. the mounting pattern will be the same.

i thought they were 29... never thought he might have a gas one.

yep unless its a cummins or v10 one it'll have 23 spline. but then he'll have to change the input and bearing retainer to run the cummins clutch. then you got a weak 23 spline shaft at the rear.

no guys, i am using '94 47rh auto trans. it has a 23 spline output shaft and a ford np205 transfer case. its not a sled puller or track truck, just a solid daily driver, something a little different. 1980 K5 blazer frame, dana 70hd rear, ford dana 60hp king pen front, '94 cummins 6bt, 47rh trans, ford np205.
there is a guy with a 1979 bronco with a 4bt swap running this set up now with 5k on it. advance adapters tech guy won't give a yes or no, but will say that the spline count is right, output shafts are the same size and both use a 6 bolt pattern.
i order one today from them, got a fathers day 10% off all orders offer. well it covered the shipping.

allright heres what i got back from a guy that used this adapter with a 47rh auto. also a few pictures of his truck. looks like an auto trans and a 205 to me. you can just see the adapter in the 3rd pic. just in front of the transfer case. thanks guys.

Re: adapter
Jake,
Yes, I used (P/N 50-0207), and I ordered the (P/N 715528) NV4500 Shifter Bracket (for Ford NP205 transfer cases) to go with it. For $45, it saved a potential headache. The adapter was easy to work with, I just made sure I followed the instructions, which were pretty detailed. I've got about 15,000 miles on it now with no problem. I had the same problem with the tech guys, so me and 2 other people, counted my splines to make sure I didn't have the 29-spline output.

A few of my vehicles have had leaking transfer case parts and its a pain to find good rebuilt units. any one got any suggestions other than ebay?

I have a Advanced Adapter between my NV4500(29 spline) and my NP273(Ford Xfer case). The rep at advanced says the bolt pattern is the same for the np205 and 273.

I have no issues with my adapter. If they make one for the 47rh I'm sure it will work as promised

I never knew that some parts from other brands can be interchanged, if this is possible it will take a lot of time finding suitable parts to make the transfer case work.

lews930, why did you need an adapter between the NV4500 and the NP273? I installed a NP271 on my NV4500 and it bolted right up? Just curious what the difference was.

So as it turns out i had a early '96 47RE trans. It kinda threw a wrench in things for a while but we are moving forward again. here are some pictures of the trans and transfer case and all adapters. I had to make a 2wd tranny into a 4wd, was not really so hard to do.

If what i had was a 47rh then all i needed was just the adapter kit. But the 47RE is shorter and has a shorter output shaft that makes the "spud shaft" too long. So after mesuring and checking and mesuring some more, we found that a 1" spacer was also needed for this transmission. The "spud" is .84" to long so with the help of a spring to keep it from walking the 1" spacer works great and is an off the shelf part.

We had the spud turned down so that the stock Dodge tailshaft seal would work.
