Would like to kick the petrol V8 boys arses in a Speedway 800kg open wheel car powered by a ISB 3.9 Cummins. Would like to get to 5000rpm, and up to 800 ft/lb of torque would be majic. Is this possible, or am I dreaming? Has anyone any experience in setting up these engines for competition? Do they need to be dry sumped, or would a Morosso Accumulator do the trick? If possible would like advice on turbo sizing, injector sizing, and how to set up the fuel system. Would vibration be a issue? I dealt to them a few years back with a 13b rotary Mazda engine, and now would like to deal to them with a diesel. "Dare to be different"

It's possible....try more like 6,000 rpm and 1200+ lb feet, depending how smoky you can be over there. A 4bt here a while back made almost 700 hp at the rear wheels. That ought to show em. Don't expect it to be cheap though.

Wow, If I could achieve those revs and that kind of torque, I would think I had died and gone to Cummins turbo heaven. What needs to be done to achieve that result? and does anyone know where I could purchase a ISB 3.9 with common rail?

At this time I would say it would be cheaper to run a p-pump than commonrail, to get the rpm's you are looking for.

I would definately run a P-pump, and I would plan on running a dry-sump setup to help get the engine low in the chassis.

if you've got unlimited budget, I'd go with a build Duramax, personally... better powerband, lower center of gravity, etc.

For RonA - Sorry, I don't understand your post.
For RacinDuallie - Do you have contact details for the triple charged 4B's?

Thanks guys, appreciate your help

SBC's Mud truck would be a good bench mark to look at....800hp out of a 4cyl!!!!

Piers did. Started PDR, then Peak, now working at BD. Thats what RonA was talking about.

So who is BD? I am in New Zealand and still getting up to speed on all the Diesel shops in the US
