I'm gonna take the head off my 99 to o-ring it and i was thinking of milling the intake off to port the head. Does anyone have any pics of an intake that can use the stock parts injector lines heater and stuff like that. Most of the ones I have been seeing are big tube maioflods I dont want anything like that. Thanks
Mike

I made this one for my common rail. I don't have a 24valve to work with on the design but maybe we could work something out if your not too far away away from me .

Will the factory air horn or the various modded one's work on it too?

No this CR intake is a side entrance, I don't have the piping made up yet but I designed it to work with the stock heater grid if you want it.
If I made one for the 24valve it would probably have the entrance in the stock position so you could use the stock or aftermarket intakes.

You think it would be ok to make an intake out of plate steel instead of a billet. Thats what I was thinking of doing just for simplicty just easier for me to work with.

I don't have a welder but I have all the CNC equipment so this works better for me. I am sure you could fab something up pretty easy if you were good with the welder.

That's exactly what I'm doing now. Doing away with the intake plate gasket as well. Steel should cost you around $45, and all you need is a grinder and small welder. I have some pics if you want them.

Shoot me some when you get done with it. Looking for ideas for my own.

Lets see some pics. I was gonna use 3/16" I think that should be Plenty heavy enough and I have a ton of it laying around. I was really going to try and cut the intake off and weld it back on. But all my friends told me that I was being way too cheap.

Some buddies of mine made one out of 1/4''. It kinda swelled at 70lbs. of boost but didn't break. It was a twelve valve.
It might of been 1/8'', I can't remember now!

Its probably 1/8" dont think 1/4" would swell. Lets see some pics of those do it yourselfers!

My aluminum intake is anywhere from .650 to .700 thick . I was reading about people blowing up the sheet metal units and the cast ones so I thought if I would make it as thick as I could with our restricting the ports and it might hold the pressure.

i have 1/4" planned for the flange that mates to the head and 3/16" for the rest of it. I also plan on adding pillars inside to add strenth and keep it rigid. The bolt holes for the apps and air horn will standard thread grade 8 nuts welded to the top plate and welded closed on the other end. The mapp sensor and IAT sensor will be drilled and tapped into the 3/16" to keep factory wiring and position. It will be tricky getting the bolts the right lenth but it will help to eliminate leaks once it's all said and done.
