Does any one know if the copper washers under the injector need to be changed to a thicker set to keep the spray pattern in the right place in the piston bowl. i am in the final stages of a common rail head swap on my 2001 vp truck and was wondering if it is important or does it not change enough to make a difference. For reference i had to cut .013 thou. off the deck surface to clean it up from water damage from sitting on a shop floor and all i could find was a stock size gasket so i know i am .013 closer to the piston with my injector. Also with the small volume of the valve recess area will my compression be altered much.

As far as I know you can't really adjust the injector depth on a 24v cause the connector tube won't want to line up and will leak.

It's been done but I don't feel it's the best practice, jmho. I'd personally try to get a .010 over gasket. I don't know how you can't find a different gasket unless you mean out of your own shop?

You didn't recess the valves to match the cut on the head?

We like to retain compression ratio with the stock HG (.010" & .020" are readily available) and use the deeper injector to run more timing inside the bowl. :Cheer:

.013 off a .056 gasket is .043 PTC clearance, about the same as the stock CR engine, in other words you will be fine.

You can adjust it without leaks. My injector bodys are 0.20 cut.Get in contact with southern diesel extreme Talk with Chris and see what he tells you.He has a friend that will fix the problem.

The valves and seats were cut and the valves are at stock depth recessed in the head so all should be good. Protrusion of the stem is also back to spec. When i was doing my math on compression i didnt think about that. The funny thing about the gasket is i spoke with the parts man at cummins alberta and i was told for my serial number of engine there was only one size. He said he was aware of different thiknesses of gaskets for the 12 valve and common rail but nothing was on his computer screen for my vp truck. i may have just had the wrong parts guy at the wrong time. But i got the gasket i needed so it was good that he didnt sell me a oversize! Quick question on deck surface prep. I have cleaned the block surface well and i am wondering if anyone uses any thing funky on the gasket like the high tack spray gasket sealant or just slap it in dry and tourqe.

stock. Not MLS . I think you know where i am going with this one. I have seen guys in the turdo drag racing world spray there mls gaskets. Mine is stock.
