So we milled the intake side of the head off last night. So while doing so. I took a look at the valve seats and found 2 cracks. One was very minor and one had cracked all the way across. Gonna take some pics of it. But just for further knowledge on a street truck. What is "bad" as far as the cracks go. I know none of them are good. But curious how bad can they be before a must fix occurs.

i sent my 9 month old NEW cast to get milled and RE-FIRE RINGED because is was warped .080. i got a call from the machine shop today and they said that it is JUNK because of the amount of cracks in it. that head has not got many miles on it, it has last years sledpulls and 3 1/4 mile runs on it. as far as engine water temp, it has NEVER been over 220. according to the machine guy, he sais this is what causes cracks and warpage, i dont know. egt's do go to 1800* when pulling, but that would not cause my warping problem.

hopefully someone else will chime in and give us some help

Well thats what Im affraid of. My truck ran all year with the temp gauge pegged off the line and the pyro pegged as well. So..... Guess ill just have to get it to a shop and checked out.

i have a recall on my pyro, thats haw i get to know the egt's. the water temp i kept a goog eye on . it was 170* or so when i would launch, but never got over to being to 220-230*. all i know is that i just paid for a new head this morning. all i got told is that the cracks are bad:bang

run it all of mine are cracked it does't hurt anything

the guy that is closest to me wont do anything with the head with it being cracked. i have it being shipped back to me so i will know exactly what it looks like. maybe it will be a good door stop, maybe it will still be salvageable. i did get a good deal on the new one, so now i will have to sell the titanium retainers, keepers and springs since the new one is assembled.

Alot of pullers will run them with the cracks as long as it pressure test alright. If they are allowing boost or coolant to go where they are not supposed to, then probably shoudnt run it.

so how much do you want for it $50 -$100

My head is cracked between the valves and injector hole on almost every cylinder. It hasn't caused problems yet.

That's awesome.:hehe: Gotta love the durability of these heads.

Mine is cracked as well on a few seats and not causing any problems. After getting my stock head back from the machine shop I noticed a lot of cracks disappear from the the valve job. That area of the head is hardened if I am not mistaken, so I would assume most cracks are just surface heat cracks and don't cause any coolant leaking issues but maybe some slight compression leak.$.02

like was said before..... If it doesnt show a leak run it. I have seen lots of heads with cracks in the seats its very common

Call Haisley if you are worried, they fixed a 24v one for us that was cracked when we sent it to have it o-ringed

my head is cracked between the valves. like i said, i dont know how bad yet, until i get it back. the only reason that i sent it back was to get milled and re-ringed due to it being warped. i called haisleys but van and curt were both busy

got it back a today. it has 15 cracks, most of which look like they are surface cracks, they are all between the valves. i already have a new one coming to me though. this one is warped .008, but if anyone wants it, pm me and we can talk. i think that it is still good. just dont want to take the chance. i do have springs, titanium retainers and keepers to go with it.
it has not been pressure tested.

if it is strictly for pulling you could fill it with alluminum then it really cant leak and the head is also alot stouter

any of these hear you guys were talking about have seats in them ? Has there been a problem with them if you do have them ?
