D70HD vs D80 Detroit Locker

OK so I wrecked my powr lok and am looking for a Detroit Locker for my D80 with 3.54 gears. And they dont make one. But I have seen people use a D80 4.10 unit and shim them different and they will work. Also have seen people get a D70HD unit and machine the holes for a D80 ring gear since the ID of the ring is the same. So which one is stronger? The D80 unit is backorder til september 10th or so and the D70HD units are still in stock at a few places. The D70HD unit is also $120 cheaper. Just wondering if I should wait for the D80 or make the D70HD work?

I'd say wait for the 80 op:! 120$ Something must be better!

I never heard of the shim the 4:10 80.
However, I had a ton of hooks on the 70 HD unit bored to fit the 80.
Broke several axles, never hurt it.

Most likely, 70 HD parts are cheaper because---they are not used in Dodge Cummins trucks.
