ok ive heard so many differnt opinions about this i want to get as much power out of my truck with a single charger and still use it for daily driving but some people say if your goning to use it as a daily driver dont go over a 62 turbo and 100hp sticks, and other people say they use a 66 turbo and 200hp or larger sticks, so i would like to the truth, i want to run about 200hp sticks and a 64 or 66 charger, for those of you who run the similar set up how are your egts, lag,and mileage

thanks for the help

What do you use the truck for?

You could "daily drive" 90% of the race trucks out there, but they wouldn't be very functional.

Do you have an automatic or manual? Auto trannies are a little more turbo picky then manual transmissions. Helps with EGT control.

I daily drive a PS62/14 with 125 hp sticks and it is fine. I usually keep the Edge on 2 or 3 or it gets a little hazy on shifts...as I drive like a bat-outta-hell no matter where I'm going. You can daily drive almost anything, but I agree with MD, functionality drops. What do you do with your truck? Fill in your sig so we know what you have. If you tow, I'd keep below 100 hp sticks. I tow real heavy with no problems of smoke or heat but I have a 14 housing on my turbo too. I'd say if you go with a 64 or 66 charger your lag is going to drive you nuts. This 62 is a little more laggy than stock, not much, but you can dang sure tell it when loaded heavy.

I daily drive a 62/71/13 (it's a little on the large side for a 62) with 150-200hp sticks with ease. I get no smoke with the smarty on 5. I drive 700+ miles a week with 0 issues.

I daily drive w/Mach 6s and a 64/12, which has been just fine with average cruising EGTs of around 750-800*. Going up steep grades I'll pull around 1000*.

I just filled up tonight and figured mileage, 17.3 mph with 60% highway driving. The 12cm housing is too small for these injector and drag race, so I'm going with a 64/71/14. Just got the turbine housing back from coating, hope to have it installed this weekend.

i drove with a sps66 and 220 inj for a year with no problems and got around 15-17.5 mpg

where do you live. i live close to sea level in indiana (i think 400 some ft.) I noticed when i was heading west once i hit the other side of dfw it was like somebody pulled the o2 out of the air. man the turbo lag was bad and so was the smoke, haha.

I never have nor ever will pay attention to mileage. I play too much, my mileage sucks.

However I have driven my truck, stock, with 100, 150, 200, 250hp injectors, and also with stock turbo, hx55 (sucks), B1 (62-12) and now a silver bullet (66-14) and the best combo for driving has to be the current 250sticks, smarty and silver bullet. It spools well, no smoke normal driving, mileage prolly wouldn't suck if I kept me foot out of it.

HP is like a condom, rather have and not use it, then need it and not have it.

I think the tranny plays a role too. A six speed should be more forgiving because you can run whatever rpms you need to, but an auto will differ in this regard depending on how its set up.

But really when you look at it, a 62 will support 500+hp and the vp44 is only good for 600+ on most trucks, so there isn't a huge gain in going bigger than a 62 unless its a competitive truck (racing/pulling). I'm running mach 4's (150 HP) sticks and a super 62 turbo and dyno'd 542. I used to run a 64/14 and I liked how it felt spooling to 500 hp, but as soon as the turbo hit full boost, power would level off and then start tapering off. Switching to the 71 turbine freed that upper end power that was being choked off by the smaller turbine, but raised the boost threshold so I smoke more at low rpms =\

62 turbo and 100 hp sticks (+/- 25) should be a driver/tow friendly combo. This is probably the best place to be for overall reliability and utility on a single turbo.

my truck is an 01 S.O 5 speed i rarley do any towing and i live in northern virginia

The traffic is so bad in NOVA I'd say go small on the turbo for quick spool.

i live in a very small town theres hardley any traffic would 200 hp sticks be to much for a 64mm

For rarely towing, probably not. But you will have excessive EGTs. You will have to keep your eye on the pyrometer.

A good set of Mach 4s with a 64/14 would be an excellent combo. You could drop the exhaust down to 12 (64/12) for a little quicker spool.

If I can spend your money for you:

Mach 4s. Maybe 5s.
62/70/13ss turbo.
What electronics do you have? TST with Smarty stack is a good choice. I absolutly LOVE my blue chip FMS/Smarty stack.

You will need a clutch.

im getting a clutch, fass 150, and probly going with the quadzilla adrenaline, i have exhaust and gauges now, its jus theres a few other people around me running 150hp injectors and a 62 or 64, im jus the kind of person that wants to go bigger

with my current 200hp edm's and the prostreet (66/71/14) it works great for what i need (rarely tow light trailer w/ quads)...slight haze driving normal and EGTs are in check (600-700 cruise and 900 climbing a hill) as far as my automatic goes, the converter locks around 1300-1400 rpm so its pretty tight and i dont have an issue with lag, especially with the adrenaline on PL02 unless im crusing at low speeds and the converter is locked in OD, but thats when u can lock out OD and accelerate normally...when i make longer trips on the highway cruising at 75mph w/ 4:10's, im at 650-700 deg getting approximately 15-16 mpg hand calculated..
