I was looking at the mitchell online tear down procedures today. Seems you need a carrier housing spreader. Has anyone done this with out a spreader? I can probly get acess to one if i need it for shure. Im hoping to start on the next 2-3 days with it.

You can do it without a spreader, but it can be a pain to do it that way depending on how much bearing preload there is.

You can build a case spreader in an hour or two. It is worth taking the time to do IMHO. Things go a lot easier then.

I've done quite a few dana rears and have never used the case spreader. Some of them are pretty tight but they come out.

alirighty, ill give it a try and if it dont work ill see my friend at the dealer ship to borrow theres for a few minutes.

case spreaders are a joke. if you need one to put the carrier in, its shimmed too tight. if someone put it in too tight and you cant get it out, get 2 people w/ a prybar each and work from opposite sides.

if the axle has never been touched i havent seen one that wouldnt come out with two 12" long bars unless it was left outside in the rain w/ no cover on.

As far as i know it was never apart before. So well see Tommorro when i start.
