Okay, I bought a dana 80 from 97crewcab and I just curious if I can switch the disc brake from my 70 over to the 80, which is drum obviously and a DRW housing.

Or... should I be asking how easy it is to directly swap in this dana 80? Other then the yoke and driveshaft of course. What about shock and spring mounts?

Don't the dodge Dana 80's have 70 outers? I thought that the center was the only "80" part of the axle.

Dana 80 and even Dana 70 disc brakes will not fit to regular drum brake axle.

Disc brake DANA axle is more similar to AAM than old drum DANA

Hmm, interesting. Chevota, I do believe your right. I vaguely remember reading that some where... Maybe on pirate4x4. Something about it basically being a Dana 70 "HD" because it uses 70 axle housings and an 80 center for the larger carrier.

I took some measurements and the spring/block perches and the shock mounts don't match... Which I guess would make sense since it is a drw unit.

it can be done you just have to machine some 5/8" caliper brackets. i was in the middle of doing this swap myself and decided to stop sled pulling that truck so now the 70 is plenty and no need to do the swap. i got the 2 blanks they just need finished if you want them. i think i got $35 in the pair.

Anybody know about the drw dana 80 directly swapping into my truck with a dana 70? Other then the yoke and drive shaft of course. I've been searching all over various sites, and I'm getting bits and pieces at best. Nothing deffinitive... or even close to being.
