How much shorter is a D80 driveshaft than a 70?

I haven't measured my driveshaft yet but it's out of a QC SB 4x4. Looking at swappng out my 70 with an 80 this weekend.

IIRC...its about 1" to 1 1/8th. Its not far off cause iv heard of some guys geting by without cutting the drive shaft down...

Just make sure you get the u-bolt mounts that go on the underside of the axle with the D80 cause the tubes are bigger. Did that make any sense?

Dana 80 SRW axle tubes should be the same size as the 70 right? Cuz it's a hybrid. From what I've been reading that's the way it is anyway... Center section is the only difference.

Lukily the guy threw in the cups for the U bolts! :D

Wish I could get a set of 4.10's for my D60 here before this weekend and I could maybe pull on Saturday!

Was yours a quad cab short bed?

Went to bolt my driveshaft up last night... it's too long... looks like an inch or inch and a half would do it... but how much room is actually needed for full suspension travel?

The shaft will almost fit as it sits it's about 1/4 inch too long to go into the yoke with the slip yoke slid all the way in on the transfer case.

You can probly see where the seal used to ride on the slip yoke that goes in the transfer...just measure how much it will take to get the seal to ride at the same spot on the slip yoke

id buy a bigger driveshaft if i were you... those tiny automatic shafts a screaming weak...

Tiny automatic shafts? Shaft seems to be the same size as the last 5 speed I worked on. That was on a '98 12v. But that was a few years ago that I worked on that.

This one is at least 4" diameter. What size are the 5 and 6 speeds?

Automaics came with a 3" driveshaft and sticks came with a 4" driveshafts. Both came with 1410 u-joints..

Looks like by where the seal rides about 1.5" will do it...

Taking it in to get it shortened today.

Let me know how much it costs and what I need to tell the shop to do.
