I was at a local pull this saturday night and I broke the pinion on my dana 70. I am probably around 600 hp with an automatic. is there anything I can do to get this dana 70 to hold up to the shift from 1st to 2nd when im leaving? I drag race alot to so the dana 80 may be a little to much for the track? What do you guys think?

if your going to pull alot get a dana 80 i never broke a pinion but did break to shafts in the 70

I had the same problem with my 94. I would shear the splines right off at the yoke. I did this twice and then i put a 14 bolt out of a chevy truck. My opinion is dana's are only good for the front. 14 bolts are a hole lot cheaper than a dana 80.There easy to make fit and I havent had a problem since.

Id get an AAM 11.5 out of a duramax or 3rd gen.
They seem to be pretty tough, but the gear ratios dont match.

I wouldnt waste your time or money with trying to get a Dana70 to hold up sled pulling. Youll be a lot farther ahead to go ahead and swap a D80 in it.

Dana 80 with a welded carrier or spool & 37 spline 2 piece axle shafts are hard to beat for overall strength. Unless you go with a Rockwell.

you can them with factory 4.10 gears.......now 3.55's are another thing.....

If you plan on hooking to a sled at all switch to a Dana 80, I broke 2 D70 pinions before I switched to an D80.
