anybody ever done this swap...looking to take the 80 out of my 97 and put it in my wifes 01 which is disk

no the 80 is from a 97 so it is drum and the 01 has a disk brake 70 so i need to convert the 80 to disk to put it under the 01

as on pirate, just swap the dana 80 with drums in it and be done with it.

My 02 has a 95 dana 80, with drum in it right now. Last year I had a dana 70 with disks. Have all the stuff to convert to disk, but the 95 dana 80 still had good shoe's on it. Honestly stops nearly the same with the drum. I haven't even done the GM cylinder up grade yet.

i have done it before and it isn't easy. You have to make new flanges to mount the disc brake backing plate. it isn't that bad, just time consuming

guess maybe i will just have to put some wheel spacers on to make the wheels fit with the drums it seems and put all new drum parts on because i had stripped all of that off of the 80 for clearance, thats why i really wanted to go to disk is because it all fits perfect on the 70

am i reading it right that i can use the caliper and rotor just have to make a bracket to hold the caliper?

Go to a race shop that sells dirt track parts, they sell a weld on caliper bracket for around $15 a side! The bracket will take a GM metric caliper, just mock it up with the GM caliper bolted to the braket and put it over the Dodge rotor and weld the bracket to the axle housing.
