Dana 80 shaft diameter (stock vs. aftermarket)

I'm looking for the diameter of a stock Dana 80 axle (I think it is 1.5")?

Also, the diameter of the aftermarket 35 and 37 spline axles in 4340 and 300M.

Are the 4340 and 300M 35 spline axles also 1.5"?

How much bigger are the 37 spline axles?

IIRC- stock 1.5 & 37 splines are 1.7

4340 and 300M 35 splines are 1.5"


For the most part spline count is proportional to diameter.

35=1.5
37=1.625
40=1.75

I think the Ford super duty trucks have the 37 spline and 1.6 axels
So you could put a 37 spline in a Dodge but would have to change out the side gears to match. And also check axel length

Axle bolt pattern is an issue also IIRC
