Looking for a Dana 80 to put under my 98. 4.10's would like to be able to upgrade to Detroit locker with 37 splines.

Which Dana 80's will work for this and where can I find that info? Also, how much stouter is a 37 spline regular duty axle compared to a 35 heavy duty. In otherwords I have a line on an 80 with a 35 spine locker. Would it be as good to go with HD axles in that or redo a regular 80 with a 37 spline locker and use regular axles.

I don't have enough $ to do an airlocker or detroit 37 plus aftermarket HD axles.

I know I'll probably pay in the long run but gotta do what I gotta do.

Good 35spline axles will handle alot of power. Pretty much enough to break an output shaft on a six speed.

Thanks. I've got a line on two axles both about same price. One stock 80 LSD, the other locker (600 miles away).

I could get the stock one, upgrade but only afford a 37 spline detroit locker now then get better axles later or upgrade to some heavier axles on the one with the locker. Cost will probably be about the same but travel time a lot less.

Any more thoughts welcome. I know the best thing to do but can't justify it right now but don't want it to cost more later.

If they are the same I would go for the detroit in the 37 spline, and then upgrade the axles later.

I just went 35 spline spool from SCS along with their axles I would imagine they would do the trick, but if U are set on 37 spline stuff www.puredieselpower.com sells the welded 37-spline carriers and axles for a good deal.

Don't run the welded carrier on the street. For pulling it would be great!

I'm not hard-set on the 37's just want a good combo that won't self-destruct after a few pulls.

I will fortunate if I can get the truck up to the mid 500's for HP so maybe the 35's would be quite sufficient. I tend to go for over-kill when it not always necessary.

Brandon, where did you get your set up from?

A welded up carrier would really be fun in the winter with a snow plow!

Sorry Mr. Dan didnt catch the DD part of his sig!
Brandon

he didn't say it was a DD. Just throwing it out. I have ran welded carrier on the street, for very limited use and will not do it again!

I meant I agreed. I remember we talked about it on the phone and this is why I went spool instead of welded, as Dan said this spool is NO fun on the street but I am not on the street with it anymore so..........

I am gona run moser axles, i was over there last week picking up axles for my Camaro, and they have improved there dana 80 axles alot from the convo i had, and alot less then the other axles out there

What material Joe? If it isn't a 4340 or better. I think your wasting your money.

Let me pose the question this way.

Yes, the truck is a daily driver and I have kids so needs to be safe. I plow snow all winter as well, so could use the traction but good manners.

If I can get a decent deal on a Dana 80, what would be a reasonable set up dollar wise and performance wise? Either 35 or 37 spline. Tranny is full billet Goerends with billet flex plate.

SCS sells mini spools lets not get that confused with a full spool and welded carriers are junk full spool is the only way to go when pulling or on the strip, DD not a good Idea.

My mini-spool is probly as strong as a full spool? Why is a mini-spool not as strong?
