Does anybody know whats the difference between a 97 and a 98 dash is and what the instrument clusters have different about them. I have a friend who is buying a 97 but the guy says that it has a 98 dash in it. He said that the truck only has 127k, were just tryin to make sure he didn't swap dashes out and the truck actually has 400k+ on it. :thankyou2:

Everything is different. The 97 gauge layout is different, the gear selection thing is vertical between the tach and speedo, the control knobs are different, etc...

EDIT: This is what my 98 looks like

Its know the knob layout is different of course, and that the odometer is digital and down at the bottom right of the gauge cluster. He jsut told me it was a 5 spd and it has shift lights?

thanks for the info man, we just ran the VIN's from the door on the ext cab and it was from a 96 4x2 1500 318 gasser.. not takin a chance of driving 450 miles to find a piss poor put to gether truck from who knows how many other trucks

That kinda sucks.

To be honest, the only reason I opened this thread was because I just got a wood grain kit for my dash, and had to figure out which model number I needed.

I was gonna say... If you got that you can go ahead on down to Vato Zone and get a few stick on hood scoops and fender vents, and some dingle berries to hang around the headliner, and forget about me ever being even sorta nice to you!LOL

Something that didn't cover the vents and latches, and around the gauges...:D

Just the more basic one. That one was a little Mexican, even for me!LOL
