Dead pedal????

Ok, got to working on the 99 CTD that I posted previously about and found that the fuel pressure is at about 11-14psi at idle and will draw down to 9-10psi on a WOT free rev. Will draw down to ~8psi on a WOT run on the road...

What I did notice is that there is a SERIOUS lack of power. I mean this thing is a pooch! My '94 would have eaten it alive when it was stock! You mash the throttle at any speed and it does NOT respond until a few seconds later and usually not at all if it's under 2200rpm.

I wish I could have tested the FP with the old overflow valve, but they already threw it away on me. I get a feeling that it was way too low under load and that it smoked the pump. I just wanted to confirm my findings in that is an example of dead pedal.

It also runs and drives without the stalling issue for about five minutes and then you have to keep on th throttle to keep it from stalling... I wonder if maybe the TPS is dirty??? :bang

if the throttle is completely dead no power gain what so ever then i would say its the vp but if it still acelerates but just is completely gutless unscrew the map sensor out of the side of the block and brake parts clean it.

Clean the MAP and IAT sensors.

You try to pull codes?

Ok, I'll try the MAP and IAT sensor tricks... TPS was low @ .29v too. No codes present and 132 key cycles since codes were last cleared.

Automatic... Shifts nice and firm though...

MAP sensor was reading 1.1iHg when I did a brake stand in the parking lot... So something like .5psi was all it was telling the ECM :bang Gonna try that and see what it does for us.

Anyone else run into problems just getting the APPS sensor??? I can only seem to get the entire bellcrank assembly for a whopping $567 list and 425.50 cost

I was on Blue Chip Diesel's site the other day and they sell just the sensor under the hood. It's $176. Hope this helps

Thanks.

BTW thanks for all the help guys. I really wasn't on my game on Friday (it was a LOOONG week). I probably would have tried selling an IP had you guys not set me straight on true dead pedal and steered me in the right direction. Now I know a few tricks for checkin 24v power loss issues :thankyou2:

Not to mention after staring at that head all day it made me want to do the 24v head on a 12v truck

another thing i just recently run into was a bad ecm after 2 apps sensors after followin the pinpoint tests it was the ecm on my own conclusion after trying a few tricks of my own

That's what I am beginning to fear... The new MAP sensor still only gives me 2.3 iHg when I do a brake stand which is about 4psi (I had the conversion backwards last time) and a whopping 5.1 iHg WOT on a decent hill ~10psi. Still have the stalling issue so resetting the minimum TPS voltage didn't help at all. Not sure if I should waste $200 of this kid's money or is there a way to check for a bad ECM??? I'm also going to try and put some more fuel in it, it says there's 1/8th tank, but who knows. Also seems a bit coincidental (sp?) that it is more troublesome on inclines than on the level.
