i went with my cousin to look at a truck he wants to buy, and while driving it the throttle pedal went completley dead for a couple seconds and then came right back. Any ideas on what causes this? Thanks.

what year is the truck? guessing its a 98.5-02 if its an 00-02 turn the key 3 times to get a code read out. i would guess the VP is dead.......or possibly the throttle positioning sensor.....my money is on the VP

I'd go with the throttle, it's cheaper and you'll need it eventually any way. Look up Timbo, he sells a slightly different sensor for much less than Mopar. Mine works great.

But check for codes if you have a Smarty or a code reader.

Thats what i didn't want it to be lol. how much are the throttle position sensors? its a 1998 24v.

I had a TPS go bad and give the same symptoms as a dieing VP... If it does dead pedal at the same RPM everytime its probably just the sensor, if it does it at random rpm's... good chance its the pump.

Go put a scanner on it... It is probably the VP...

I have a guy here at work who has put three sets of inj. in this 03 and it still acts like it dont want to run. He has a box and cant run it because the truck cuts out like crazy with it on. Any sugestion? He thinks it is tps but i dont think it is.

You might get more answers posting that in the Common Rail Section..

I just shat another VP44 myself.... this one made it a whopping 15k miles with minimal flogging. Been having dead pedal issues since May...... It finally left me stranded Saturday.

dammnn that sucks. the next time a vp goes on my truck i think im just gonna p pump it.

im gonna go with the APPS, ive lost to of them in my truck and everyone told me it was the VP....alot cheaper fix at about $400 but you really need a scanner to truly diagnose the problem. the VP going out will not always throw a code either, if you cant get a scanner and if he buys it,find a buddy thatll loan him the APPS sensor off his truck, do the APPS reset and run it for a day or so and see if the dead pedel goes away. if not id say its the VP.

I was hoping APPS, till I saw 3 216 codes. Yuck.
