detroit locker help please! dana 80 3.55 gears??

Hey guys new to the forum here and was looking for some help. Recently bought a detroit locker for my truck its a 02 6spd with 3.55 gears, went to put it in with a mechanic of mine (bought the shim and bearng kit bolted the ring gear to the locker) and basically the gears don't mesh with it. Now when i purchased it from pure diesel power it says it will work with 3.55 gears and 4.11 gears? I'm kinda stuck now, from what i hear they don't make a detroit for 3.55 gears?? Any help woul be greatly appreciated. Oh and the axle shafts are 35 spline too! thanks -Shane

I know when I was searching for things the Dana 80 carrier listed 4.10 gears and up numerically and the front Dana 60 listed 3.55 gears and up. So for the Dana 80 that means the two stock gear choices use two different carriers so a locker for 4.10's won't work for the 3.55's.
 
Ok first things first, PDP is a stand up company so they will help you figured something out.

Secondly, the last I knew no Detroit did not make a Locker for the 3.55 R&P. You had to do what my local 4x4 shop did for me a few years ago. Purchase a HD D70 Detroit for 4.10 gears and then drill out the ring gear bolt holes for the larger 3.55 ring gear bolts. Unfortunately, this voids any warrently on your brand new $600 locker. :bang

I was stuck with my daily driver broke and needed it back quickly and needed a "locker" because it was a weekend warrior on the pulling track. There may be some better options for you on the market now.
 
thank you very much guys and yes past 2 days I been dealing with them and they been helping me the best they can. They have a typo on there site stating the detriot locker for a dana 80 will for for both 3.54 AND 4.11 gears which clearly isn't the case. I been learning alot about this in the past 2 days Got Smoke? if you don't mind me asking what dana 70 locker do i get theres about 5 different ones if you have a part number that would be great. again thank you all very much!
 
I don't know a buddy of mine did it for me at his shop. All I know is it was a Detroit Locker for HD D70
 
i think you can get air lockers in a 3.55

are you interested in those? i think they cost a little more though
 
It is possible to make a 4.10 diff case work with 3.55 r&p and carrier. But, it takes a lot of creative shimming. We did it in our 01 cause I had a 4.10 laying around and did not want to buy one for 3.55 gears. Still running on the street and the track 3 years later.
 
Move the case savers and it will work, and just drill the holes, the 80 ring gear centers on the hub.
 
the only two lockers out there for 3.55 in a dana 80 is either ABR air or a tru trac and its limited slip. or just weld ur spider gears together
 
awesome advice thank you, all i'm even thinking about trying one of those power trax "lunch box" lockers? probably a bad idea yeah i know, its half the price ,figured what the hell though right? Thats when I'll do it right with the arb air locker...
