I'm just curious after reading Smokem's Signature..(Not calling him out BTW) It just got me thinking.

Here is his Sig.

Hp numbers, no need to back them up on another dyno, just put them in your signature, it's the coolest.

My question is, How do you guys feel about claiming a specific HP range or number Solely based on Track numbers...Time, trap speed, veh. weight, etc......

Using the CompD calucualor on my 11.477@117.88 run and a pretty accurate weight of 7300 +/- lbs., I get right around 800 RWHP....(backed it up with a 11.54@117.78 btw)

What are your feelings about someone with a backed up time slip and claiming a certain HP????

I've never really been into putting my HP in my sig. cause I thought the time/weight spoke for itself......I just want to make sure I'm not over stepping when I post my supposed hp range....

Feelings??

I think there isn't much issue going that way......however, the nos bottle shot into the intake punks with a spiked inertia dyno chart in hand claiming a theoretical E.T from their dyno numbers is about as lame as it gets.

BUT....BTW are you sure you don't weigh 10,000 pounds....LOL that should spit out a good HP number.

lol

Yeah I guess if they cheater want to cheat, they'll find a way!!

I'd put a c.800 rwhp....calculators are usually pretty accurate, and they're usually lower rather than higher, so if anything it's a bit conservative. It's a lot easier to mess up on a dragstrip (traction, gears, shifts, etc) than to mess up on a dyno. Trap speed is the best indicator.

My point exactly...Have always heard that trap speed and weight is all you need to pin in down to very close to relality...

I think the track times are more accurate than dyno numbers for the reasons already stated. I wouldn't claim to have made the numbers but for comparison it makes for a very solid number to compare to.

i dynoed 531 at ddp then three weeks later went to the drags and ran the best of 13.99 at 102.42 and by mph, it says i only have 499hp at the rear wheels! for a manual truck i think its hard to get the hp calculator to be as accurate as it is for a auto. just my 2cents

i, personally, would trust most trap speed calculators, they just seem to be accurate. but i wouldnt base or "claim" an hp # off of it enough to put in my sig, nor would i base an e.t. off an hp # .... JMO

but damn swole..wish my CC/SB weighed 7300 !!!!!

Trap speed and weight have been real accurate with my Dyno numbers. 6850 lbs race weight with trap speeds from 114.633-115.151mph. I have about 10 Dyno runs with this setup and they ranged from 690hp-711hp

Trap speed does seem to be close. At just over 6500#, 125.7 = 870's hp. Dyno is saying 880's. I have a very poor 60 ft time of 2.07, which is causing the mph to be down a bit. I'd say the numbers are probably close. I don't think a manual tranny is going to be as reliable number wise though.

lol Yeah, Them Furd's er Heavy, huh!!

Yeah, that's why I never put the HP in my Sig.....I did / have claimed that my truck was an 800 +/- HP truck though....The only dyno run I ever had was litterally a day or two after we got it running last year and before true break in and loosened up....It was 766....But several things had changed between that and my track runs.....I had blown a HG and done that and a few other tweaks in tunning....But the track runs and mph was the best indicator that I had close to or slightly above 800..

btw, My old set up actually was dead on with Dunbars dyno using track mph, weight as well.

So, I'm convinced that its pretty accurate....But honestly, I could care Less about a HP number on the dyno anyway.....My future E.T.'s and MPH is where its at for me!!!

:Cheer:

dynos can be up or down spiked whatever the only thing that counts is who gets to the end first

but thats only me

if this is true... I've been down from 25 to 50hp and every dyno run I've every made. All on Dunbars dyno. The calculator trap speed for mine shows 777hp.

Actually, slower 60's will usually generate faster trap speeds. Faster 60's will lower let's of course, but the trap speed will typically be slightly slower. Has to do with the accelleration rate through the beams.

Thank you, I did not know that.(moderately fast truck, slow driver).

I don't believe it's anywhere close to an exact science, so I don't care where your numbers come from as long as they are truthful.

As for me, my signature has my dyno number from TS 09, a few weeks after that I ran it at MIR in Maryland and ran a dismal 13.5 @ 120 w/ 6330lb race weight (I think the 60' was near 2.7 or so - 2wd and street tires). Hardly worth publishing and I broke the truck, so no backing it up.

But I still have an obligation to my sponsors, even if I failed to get the truck the track more than once this past year, so I post the HP numbers, to show the public that my sonsors/suppliers have proven parts and abilites.

I'm certainly not making excuses for the d-bags that are posting up crap info, but trying to point out that there may be a reason some people put some info out. Besides, there are those that build ONLY for the dyno, so they won't have a timeslip to back it up, but may have tons of dyno runs to do so.

Greg, I never realized that either, thanks as well.

The reason for my signature; I went to Danville and made 876hp on stock injectors and an HX40 on my '92 VE equipped 1st Gen. Sarcasm added for dramatization, but it is tiresome. If you make the number and can back it up, great, if not, don't get a bumper sticker made just yet.
