I've been reading the internet as I am looking for a truck in this model range. I've heard mixed stories about the automatic transmission in these trucks and know that some have experienced problems. If I just plan pulling my truck to the pulls and driving it on a daily basis, what problems do I need to look out for? I plan on keeping the truck close to stock other then an exhaust, intake, and maybe a small programmer. Are there any must have upgrades? I've done plenty of reading and everything is different.

Thanks for any help!

For stock-ish power, I suggest at least a VB to give the trans a helping hand. Depending on mileage, a converter may be needed.

Absolutely. I just have no experience at all with the automatics. The rest of it I'm good with.

A good vb upgrade should hold your power level on a otherwise stock trans, given its in good shape already. The TC will be the next upgrade I would do if you want to beat on it a little.

If you aren't beating on it too bad they will last. I had mine rebuilt last year after 270K and it was all original but it was just whooped.
