Does the starter need to come out?

Well i almost have the trans out on my truck( so i can get the 3rd gear syncro fixed) and i have a question the chiltons manual says the starter needs to come out but it doesnt appear that it has to. Im not pulling the flywheel. So does the starter need to come out? Thanks

No not unless you were putting in a new dd clutch that required a starter spacer.
