This is the deal. I've got a few different plates, stock, Banks and a modified 10.
On all of them acceleration is decent off the line after tuning the AFC. The thing is they all accelerate the same from 1/4 to full throttle until about 10 psi then it's off to the races :drive:. I can't just punch the throttle and go like I'm wanting to. I've messed with the AFC a lot and if I go any further forward or adjust the idle screw anymore it smokes to much for me. The way I have it set up, from a dead stop I get a little puff off the line and a slight haze from there at WOT. What am I missing or is this how it's going to be? Sorry if I'm *bdh*.

Had to put the smilies in for my wife.

The AFC holds fueling back until adequate pressure is built. It doesn't matter where you are, if there isn't enough boost then it will hold it back. However, it should kick off at 5psi or so, not 10. Though 10 is where all hell usually breaks loose (power really kicks in). This is really just a factor of turbo size and your really just complaining about turbo lag. Easy fix, get a smaller turbo (which isn't good for top end) or twins, a variable turbo will also do the trick. It does sound like the AFC is a little more controlling than it should be, but with the little amount of smoke that you want that might be all you're going to get out of the hx35 as far as turbo lag goes. You can set the exhaust valve at 15 lash which will help it a bit.

There's no turbo lag, it lights right of the get go. I know it's in the fueling. If I'm in that 4-8 psi range and I mash the throttle it accelerates the same as if I were giving it 1/4 or 1/2. There's no smoke difference between them either. If I loosen up the star wheel at 10psi I get a bigger puff at 10psi. With the looser starwheel and WOT I get a puff off the line, then kind of clears up, then at 10psi another dark puff andd that clears to a haze.
